Buurtvuur

Yasser Ballemans

Because we could all use some light, warmth, and togetherness during these dark days.

A fire has been burning on Notweg in the Wildemanbuurt neighborhood for several months now. BuurtVuur originated from a temporary neighborhood project in which residents forged their own metal “flames” in a mobile forge. All these unique flames together form a single light sculpture: a contemporary campfire that glows warmly in the evening with LED lighting and is surrounded by seating areas for people to gather. The work was realized in collaboration with The Beach and the Amsterdam Light Festival and donated to the neighborhood in honor of Amsterdam’s 750th anniversary.
