Govert Heikoop

On Tolstraat in Amsterdam-Zuid stands an untitled artwork by Govert Heikoop (1951–2007), installed around 1985, presumably to mark the completion of the renovation of Cinétol and the construction of the community center. The sculpture consists of two columns, painted in the primary colors blue, red, and yellow, with protrusions at the top. The use of color recalls De Stijl, which is also reflected in the architecture of Cinétol.

In 1991, the artwork was described in Het Parool as “minimal art”: a freestanding piece that nonetheless integrates with its surroundings. The interplay of light causes the colors to interfere with one another, a subtle interaction of form, color, and reflection.
