Two giant dogs flank the Postjesweg overpass, they look like they walked right out of a cartoon and are now looking at the bicyclists, runners and dog walkers that move underneath them in Beatrixpark. The two well-behaved spectators are placed by sculptor Marjolijn Mandersloot, after repair activities at the Postjesweg in 2002.
Marjolijn Mandersloot is a Dutch artist who primarily makes sculptures of animals in various apperances and materials. With her art she is playing with the boundaries between imagination and reality. The fantasy animals are lifelike through their materiality, size and placement. Mandersloot mostly places her artworks in public space. Other examples include a dog made out of faux grass on top of the library in Almere and two large bronze bears placed in Almelo.
