Blue Arch

Cyril Lixenberg

At the edge of Osdorp, Cyril Lixenberg’s Blue Arch marks an imagined gateway to the district. This steel artwork, with its dynamic geometric form, seems to play a game of balance and perspective. The deep blue surface is subtly framed by black edges where the structure meets the ground.

The arch, reminiscent of a fragment of a Möbius strip, tilts in space: the flat metal surface rotates 90 degrees along its path, creating an intriguing sense of movement. Depending on the viewpoint, perception shifts entirely. What appears to be an open passage from one angle transforms into a closed plane from another.

Every week, het stadscuratorium posts a Sunday Sculpture on Instagram, the story behind an artwork in public space that gives colour to the city of Amsterdam.
