Family

Paul de Reus

On the west side of the Theo van Gogh Park is the artwork Family, created by artist Paul de Reus.

A cheerful, colorful image of two parents lying in the grass with their legs stretched up where the children are standing. The classic family theme fits well in the park, where people and families come to walk, laze, meet and play. The sculpture is made of bronze and filled with concrete, it weighs 1700 pounds!

Why the children stand on the feet of the parents?

“One of the assignments was that the sculpture had to be so high that you could see it from the 26 stop. That’s how it came to be that the children are standing on their parents’ feet.” So says the artist.

This artwork is part of the series of Sunday Sculptures that Stadscuratorium Amsterdam posts on Instagram every Sunday.
