Noch einmal

Henk Visch

Alongside the Polderweg, next to the train tracks, stands this gigantic bronze leg. It was placed there in 2018. The six meters high artwork, which weighs more than 1000 kilos, was made by artist Henk Visch and is titled Noch Einmal (German for ‘Once more’). The name refers to recycling an original design; every time Visch sells one sculpture, he casts another leg.

When the housing corporation Ymere asked him to create a sculpture, he decided on a monumental version of the artwork. I was meant as a gift to the city of Haarlem, but the sculpture wasn’t placed as a result of opposition by Haarlem citizens. In 2018 Ymere decided to move the leg to Amsterdam.

This artwork is part of the Sunday Sculptures series that Stadscuratorium Amsterdam posts every Sunday on Instagram.
