In Flevopark sits a giant, scared rabbit: Anxiety Rabbit. The sculpture is easily recognisable as a work by Piet Parra because of the trademark pointy snout. It is both a comedic and absurdist image; the sculpture is seen as a metaphor for the continuously expanding city, in which everyone adapts to what is seen as progress, but which can also disrupt lives. It might also be a bridge between the peaceful, large park which, one day a year, is transformed into a festival.
In February 2017 the first step in the making of this sculpture was made. The organisers of Appelsap Festival started a petition for the placement of this giant artwork in the park. With more than 1600 signatures and financial support of Mondriaan Fonds and WeTransfer, this idea became reality. During the 18th edition of Appelsap the sculpture was revealed and donated to Flevopark.
This artwork is part of the Sunday Sculptures series that Stadscuratorium Amsterdam posts every Sunday on Instagram.
