The light artwork Colour Connection in the pedestrian tunnel under the A10 highway strengthens the connection between the Gulden Winckel neighbourhood and the Kolenkit neighbourhood. With this glowing piece of art the Lidewijdepadtunnel between Jephtastraat and Sinjeur Semeynstraat has become an inviting and safe underpass. Drawings of neighbourhood residents are included in the artwork.
Before the placement of Colour Connection the tunnel was experienced as unpleasant by its users; it was dark and it felt unsafe. The idea for a participatory artwork, which includes voices of the neighbourhood residents, was a result of the planned widening of the tunnel. Three artists sketched designs, commissioned by the municipality of Amsterdam. The frequent users of the tunnel chose the design of Colour Connection by Nina Rave as the winner.
