Fourteen ceramic tableaux by F. Starik hang in the Spaarndammer and Staatslieden neighborhood, showing a family on a bicycle. The father is waving happily, while the mother sits on the back and the son is in front. Starik described this artwork as a “good mood machine” that cheers up passersby in their daily routine. Originally there were 16 of these works, but two have unfortunately disappeared. It remains a friendly greeting in the Amsterdam streetscape.
Every week, het stadscuratorium posts a Sunday Sculpture on Instagram, the story behind an artwork in public space that gives colour to the city of Amsterdam.
