Weather Engine

David Claerbout

Weather Engine, which is situated in the large metro hall of Central Station, offers a new window into the world. The world of tomorrow, to be exact. The video artwork shows us what kind of weather we can expect in 24 hours. Placed in a fictional landscape, the metro travellers see a mysterious lone figure. The hastiness and turbulence of the busy station don’t seem to get a hold of him. His activities change with the seasons, and exists parallel to the routines of the commuters.

The video work is made by Belgian artist David Claerbout. He is a trained painter, but gained fame with his film and photography projects. He often works with boredom as a response to a society where everyone always lacks time. In Claerbout’s vision, time is free.
